Mental Health Training for Bristol Charity

It all begins with an idea.

Client Spotlight: Hawkspring – Transforming Support Through Mental Health Training

At Esteem, we specialise in delivering high-quality, affordable mental health training tailored to the real-world needs of organisations. One of our recent collaborations was with Hawkspring, a respected charity based in South Bristol that supports individuals experiencing drug and alcohol dependency.

The Need for Specialist Mental Health Training

Hawkspring’s team is on the frontline, working closely with people struggling with alcohol and substance misuse and often dealing with co-existing mental health difficulties. Although the team had completed previous mental health training courses, they found these lacked the depth and practical insight required for the complex cases they encounter daily.

That’s when they turned to Esteem for a more comprehensive training solution.

The Challenge

Hawkspring needed targeted mental health training that went beyond the basics—training that would empower their staff to understand and effectively respond to specific mental health conditions frequently encountered in their work. These included:

  • Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD)

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Bipolar Affective Disorder (BPAD)

They were looking for training that combined professional knowledge with practical strategies, helping their team feel more confident and capable in every client interaction.

Our Bespoke Mental Health Training Programme

Esteem developed a bespoke mental health training programme designed specifically around Hawkspring’s needs. The course was delivered by registered mental health professionals and included:

  • An introduction to the biopsychosocial model of mental health

  • Understanding the psychological impact of trauma

  • Deep dives into EUPD, PTSD, and BPAD

  • Exploration of current treatment guidelines and evidence-based approaches

  • Techniques for building therapeutic relationships

  • Communication skills for supportive conversations,

Every session was interactive, scenario-based, and rooted in the real-world challenges faced by the Hawkspring team.

The Outcome

Thanks to this tailored mental health training, Hawkspring’s staff are now more confident, better informed, and better equipped to support individuals with complex mental health needs. The training has helped the organisation continue delivering compassionate care within the South Bristol community.
